Abacela 2012 Estate Muscat, Umpqua Valley

Muscat is one of our favorite varieties because it often is so beautifully aromatic.

Most Muscats are not to be confused with the lingering Moscato craze that has swept through the nation. They typically are not  bubbly, overly sweet sippers but rather are elegant, delicate wines.

This one from Southern Oregon also delivers on the palate, providing delicate and perfectly balanced flavors. This opens with aromas of lychee, gooseberry, lime and slate, followed by rich flavors of jasmine, honeydew melon, orange oil and clove. Though it is 4% residual sugar, you might never know it because the richness in the mouth balances with moderate acidity. It's a complex and layered wine.

This earned our top "Outstanding" rating in a blind tasting.
