Abacela 2012 Albarino named Wine of the Week - May 2nd
Abacela was among the first wineries in the United States to plant this Spanish white variety, and it grows really well in Southern Oregon. Fresh grapefruit dominates subtle pear aromas underneath, promising a bright, fruity treat. In the mouth, this wine delivers a load of grapefruit juice first, with dashes of lime and lemon almost pushing out the hoped-for pear. Bright acidity, the hallmark of Earl Jones’ Abacela, won’t peel the enamel off your teeth, but it does just about brush them. This won a gold medal and best white wine at the Great Northwest Wine Competition in March.
Food matches: Artichoke dip, fresh crab, seafood chowder or Caesar salad all will pair beautifully with this bright white wine.
