Winter pruning in action at Abacela

Some visitors ask if we slow down at the winery during the winter months. In actuality we are still very busy. We're assembling the 2010 red wines in the cellar, preparing them for the upcoming bottling season. We are also planning ahead for all the special events that happen in our Vine & Wine Center during the Spring and Summer season as well as our big Wine Club Fiesta in August.

- But the most activity is in the vineyard -

With 76 acres under vines it takes our vineyard crew many weeks (months!) to complete the pruning of all the vines. We use two different methods for pruning, cane and spur. These pictures are of Augie, longtime and valued vineyard employee, cane pruning an Albarino vine.

The Greatest of the Grape awards are revealed!

2012 Greatest of the Grape

On the evening of Saturday, March 3rd over 650 guests attended the 42nd annual Greatest of the Grape at Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville, Oregon. Southern Oregon wineries and restaurants showcased their best wines and fare to the jovial crowd. 

We are excited to share that our 2007 Reserve Tempranillo won the following honors:

"Best Red Wine" by people's choice

"Gold Medal" from the professional judging

We were also excited to receive the 1st runner up nod for Best Food & Wine Pairing along with the Mark V Grill & Bar and their Serrano Ham wrapped Spanish date stuffed with Délice de Bourgogne and Marcona almond.
